Kinetic announces its Sixth Concert Season, focused on flexibility and safety.

Houston, TX — Houston’s premier conductorless ensemble, Kinetic announces its 2020-2021 Concert Season, consisting of five chamber and string ensemble performances, to be presented from various locations in the Houston area.

With flexibility and safety as the season’s defining focus, each program on Kinetic’s sixth season is scalable in size, scope, and format, able to be quickly adapted according to the rapidly changing circumstances of our world. “Malleability has always been our strong suit,” says Natalie Lin Douglas, Kinetic’s artistic director. “As an ensemble that already frequently scales up and down in size, we’re prepared for this moment, and are remaining as flexible as possible.”

The season begins with “Textures of Change” on November 1, 2020, performed at the Live Oak Friends Meeting House. Originally designed to be a unique sensory experience under the transforming James Turrell Skyspace, the performance will now be live-streamed to audiences at home. “Points of Inflection” on November 29, 2020 at Archway Gallery follows, and will also be live-streamed. The performance features a curated musical program complementing gallery artist Tracey Meyer’s exhibit, “What Shapes Us.”

In the Spring, Kinetic’s season continues with “Quiet Space” on January 24, 2021; a cross-disciplinary collaboration with Houston Contemporary Dance on April 17, 2021; and “Delights & Dances” on May 23, 2021. Each program has the capability to be live streamed or presented in-person.

Continuing its commitment to showcase diverse, under-represented, and newly composed classical music, Kinetic’s sixth season features a world premiere by award winning, Houston-trained composer, Paul Novak, as well as music by women and people of color, including Caroline Shaw, Jennifer Higdon, and Michael Abels. As is the ensemble’s custom, each program is curated by a different Kinetic musician, with this season’s programming team consisting of Tonya Burton (violist), Sebastian Stefanovic (violist), Natalie Lin Douglas (violinist), Bree Ahern (cellist), and Samuel Park (violinist).

“Amid the uncertainty around us, Kinetic remains committed to our mission, and we will strive to continue enriching our community with excellent music making.” — Dr. Lin Douglas.

An artist-led ensemble of young professional string players, Kinetic is increasingly gaining recognition for its dynamic, collaboratively driven performances and masterfully curated musical programs. The ensemble has been acclaimed for its “thoughtful, incisive programming” and “visually arresting… brilliantly executed” performances (Arts+Culture Texas).
